Aboriginal community development

Paul Marshall has been closely associated with Kimberley Aboriginal organisations and communities for almost three decades.

He played a key support role with Kimberley Land Council in the mid-1980s during its formative years, securing recurrent funding from the federal government, setting up the Kununurra office, engaging a staff anthropologist, and establishing sound business systems.

His acclaimed book ‘Raparapa’ – an account of the Aboriginal role in building the Kimberley pastoral industry – was published by Broome-based Magabala Books in 1988. The Hon. Michael Kirby AC CMG wrote a forward for the 2011 revised edition. See:

Paul has worked closely with the Nyikina Mangala Traditional Owners for over 35 years and has managed the Mudjala Aboriginal medicine project on their behalf since its inception.
